Jim was born in Glasgow in 1945 and spent much of his youth in Ayrshire. He trained as a draughtsman, and from an early age, found great inspiration in architectural subjects. This led to his early work, painting a series of watercolours depicting the grandeur of the architecture of the city of Glasgow. Living in the Central Belt of Scotland, allowed him to depict the rugged coastline of the West and the quaint fishing villages of the East. For many years his medium was watercolour, but has now added acrylic to his painting media. He has over one hundred publications.
Jim has exhibited internationally in the United States, Russia, Denmark and Estonia. In 1967 he opened his own gallery in Clarkston, Glasgow.
